Floriculture is a production that dates back to the Ottoman Empire. So much so that it is known that rosebushes were grown in the region known as Gülbahçe, rosebushes were sent to Ottoman palaces, madrasas and hospitals from here and the name of this region was expressed as Gülbahçe. Until the 1980s, flower production was carried out on a small scale in home gardens, and the flowers produced were sold in crates in the district and district neighborhood markets. After the 1980s, floriculture was developed by the producers as a source of income on its own, the variety of products was increased and today, with its rich varieties such as garden, hall, seasonal, tree species, it has become sold to every corner of our country. In addition, flower festivals have started to be organized in order to promote Bayındır floriculture, create new markets, increase employment and ensure the development of the floriculture sector.

As Bayındır, the floriculture sector, which constitutes a significant share of the district's income and is the source of income for a significant majority of the district's population in terms of employment, has become a chimneyless industry in the district. As a result of the initiative of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce and the Mayor's Office, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is working on the establishment of a Floriculture Organized Industrial Zone in the district. With the establishment of the floriculture organized industry, the number of people working in the district will increase and the income of the district will increase significantly.

Upon the development of floriculture in the district, producers were united under the roof of cooperatives. Cooperatives help in the procurement of floral needs and marketing of products and cooperate with the relevant departments of universities to improve products and production techniques.

Through cooperatives, seasonal, ground cover, shrub and tree group, potted ornamental plants are produced and sold to municipalities, hotels, site managements, landscaping companies and other private and public institutions at home and abroad.
